BIN-RDI Areas of Research

Center of Excellence in Energy Conversion and Harvesting
Center of Excellence in Advanced Computation and Diagnostics
The intersection of Biotechnology, Information Technology and Nanotechnology
(Bio-Info-Nano) has been recognized for some time as having the potential to catalyze a broad-based technological revolution on the scale of the one created by network information technologies alone.
While it is now widely understood that the current disruptive technological revolution centers around the challenge of creating clean energy technologies and establishing broad patterns of global sustainability, it is also the case that bio-info-nanotechnology and related research is among the most promising avenues for meeting these challenges. Over the next two decades, bio-info-nano research will provide new national capabilities, not only for space science and exploration, but also for the development of alternatives for renewable energy resources.
The BIN-RDI has outlined a variety of projects in the areas of energy conversion and harvesting; advanced computation and diagnostics (for both environmental monitoring and long-term space flight); and the development of a set of new, world-class micro-characterization tools in support of industry affiliates and associated programs.
